Ghettoes

These were essentially reservations for the Jews to live in – walled areas of towns and cities that Jews were forced to live in. Apart from being uprooted from their homes, people went on to starve to death as work and money grew increasingly difficult to come by as time went on. The largest ghetto was in Warsaw, Poland – as portrayed in the film The Pianist. There are also compilations of photos of life in the ghetto available on Youtube, such as the one below. Over 55,000 Jews died in the Warsaw ghetto.
